Almost everybody has a cell phone these days. The explosion in the use of cell phones is quite amazing. In 1998 there were about 500,000 mobile phone subscribers; in 1993, it increased to 13,000,000 and by 2006, there were around 223 million mobile phone users.
Mobile phones transmit signals via radio frequencies to communicate information. The radio frequency signals from mobile phones fall within the microwave fraction of the electromagnetic spectrum. This radiation is defined as electromagnetic and microwave radiation. In short, mobile phones use microwave radiation to enable one to talk. The effects of cell phone radiation on the health of children are extremely troublesome. A scientific study has shown that mobile phones cause more problems to adults who use them extensively. Microwaves can be dangerous to humans and the most noticeable dangerous effect is overheating.
Children are exposed to these microwaves from the time they are in their mother's womb. Many scientists believe that people who live within 400 meters of mobile phone towers for more than five years have a higher risk of developing some cancers. People who live in surroundings with mobile towers in them can have the following problems:
Depression enhanced by up to 64 times
Fatigue enhanced by up to 37 times
Appetite loss enhanced by up to 25 times
These problems affect adults and children alike. Children are more prone to suffer from these severe health problems due to increased absorption of the radiation levels. Extensive use of mobile phones may even lead to mouth cancer; thus children particularly should have very minimum exposure. Parents must take the following steps into consideration to minimize their children’s exposure to the RF radiation. They should not allow their children to use their
cell phones all the time. They should not allow their children to use cell phones unless in an emergency. Similarly, they should not let them keep their headphones on for a long time.
Mobile phone addiction has become a real problem in today’s world - irrespective of the age. Many psychiatrists believe that the need of mobile phones is becoming one of the biggest non-drug habits in the 21st century. Most teenagers use
touch phones and
PDA Phones extensively, without knowing the harmful effects of these phones. New models of touch phones and PDA phones are being released and are inspiring people with their unique designs and styles. Another of the major disadvantages of these mobile phones is cyber harassment. Many people use these phones without knowing the side effects of the device. Mobile phones should not be used often or unless there is an absolute necessary.
