HD Televisions are broadcasting and media platform that were designed to completely replace anologue and standard definition digital TV. Although it has been well received in around the world, HD TV is still challenging to set up because of a number of issues such as digital integration and the need for additional equipment needed in some cases to adopt full High Definition. Also because it is still been implemented around the world, it will take some time for many consumers to enjoy the full benefits of HD television.
Though there are a number of factors and issues that need to be resolved about HD television, it has significant improvements and advantages over standard digital or definition TV and analogue TV. In comparison with both, the picture quality is the first and foremost known advantage of HD television. With the ability to display up to 1080 lines of color which is almost 2 times the amount of lines of color that an SD TV or analogue can produce, this enables HD televisions to provide excellent if not superior picture quality. Also HD television opens up the possibility of new broadcasting capabilities. In comparison with analogue TV which can only receive one channel on one signal, a HD television can receive up to 16 more channels from the same one signal and because the signal is received using a computer code, it is easier for signal to be transmitted and delivered over the air, enabling faster image processing and picture quality. HD television also has better audio quality allowing an HD television to receive up to 7 channels of audio and bringing a new level of realism to consumers’ homes.

Of course there are a number of things that are needed to enjoy these benefits, starting from the broadcasting service all the way to the transmitter and consumer’s receiving in their home. It is a completely new system that has to be implemented. There are some analogue televisions that can receive an HD television signal but will have to lower the screen picture resolution to fit the screen size. HD television is available in two main picture formats, 720p and 1080p.
With its roots firmly dating back to the beginning of the first TVs, HD television is today set to take television and TVs into the next century. There are many other HD Television platforms being developed such as 3D and even 4D but one thing is clear, the sky is not the limit with HD televisions.
