For a lot of people, playing games on their personal computers and laptops provides them the break they need from work or troubles of their daily lives. Gaming provides them mental satisfaction from the games they play. However, for those who played on their Playstation or Xbox or any other consoles for years, some would say that nothing could beat the games provided within these consoles. Problems arise when the games especially for older consoles like Playstation and Playstation 2 is no longer available on the market. Well, for those gamers who have their laptops or desktops and are looking for these console games, availability is not a problem anymore. Game emulators can now be found on the Internet and downloaded free for your daily gaming satisfaction.

Emulators are computer programs that run console games from Playstation, Playstation 2, Playstation 3, Xbox, Gamecube, Nintendo64 and other systems on one’s own personal computer or laptop. Emulators emulate or imitate the functions of a console by installing the required Bios, Plugins, and other system files needed to run the games from the console. Some emulators do not have the complete set of Plugins and Bios, so users are encouraged to download other supporting files with regards to the compatibility of the emulator components to the kind of laptop or computer they are using. As for the games, a disk image of the game (.iso files etc.) can be downloaded via the Internet. For some games that are unavailable over the Internet, if the users have access to the CD used on the consoles, the disk image can be copied directly from the CD for the emulator to play. If not, a disk imaging software is needed to extract the files from the game’s CD and convert it into a disk image that can be played by the emulator. Some emulators also have the feature of directly emulating the game from a CD without having to create the disk image. For all emulators, no software installation is required for the games, as the disk image or the game’s CD itself will be used by the emulator.

After configuring the emulator and preparing the image, one can play their favorite games from their consoles on their own laptops or computers. For a better gaming experience, USB controllers are also available in gadget shops as well as on the Internet.
